PETA President Ingrid Newkirk’s birthday is fast approaching. The past year flew by with countless victories for animals—this year, Ingrid’s birthday wish is to give a big boost to PETA’s Global Compassion Fund, which provides relief to animals around the world.
This unique program helped animals trapped on an ash-covered island in the Philippines when Taal Volcano erupted, supported rescue work in Beirut after the city was devastated by an explosion, and provides veterinarians and fieldworkers in Romania with ongoing resources to help the thousands of homeless animals in that country. PETA’s Global Compassion Fund also supports “spay-a-thons” in the Philippines; treatment for dogs suffering with mange in Mexican villages; the only veterinary clinic available to the hundreds of donkeys, horses, camels, and other working animals in the “Lost City” of Petra, Jordan; and much, much more.

Every dollar raised from the event will directly help animals around the world in many ways, including by—but certainly not limited to—providing lonely dogs in Romania with spacious doghouses to help them survive dangerous weather, spaying and neutering hundreds of dogs and cats through PETA Asia’s sterilization program in the Philippines, and covering the annual expenses incurred after rescuing two suffering horses in India from a lifetime of hard labor and replacing them with an eco-friendly mechanized cart. Additionally, these funds will help PETA support the clinic in Petra, which sees about 250 patients a month, including by feeding the donkeys there, buying an X-ray machine and other veterinary equipment, and building a treatment room and foal-safety areas.
