5 Ways PETA Is Helping Animals in Laboratories This Week

  1. Influencer Jeremstar captured attention in Paris while he posed in a bathtub full of “bloody” bubbles, reminding the public that decisions made by the European Chemicals Agency are undermining European bans on animal tests for cosmetics—and that European PETA entities are determined to protect animals from draconian testing requirements.
  2. News that San Antonio officials are giving $10 million in COVID-19 relief funds to support experiments on monkeys at the Texas Biomedical Research Institute’s Southwest National Primate Research Center prompted young activists to descend on city hall with PETA U.S.’ new augmented reality (AR) tool to highlight the misery that animals are enduring on American taxpayers’ dime.   3. We filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice for hiring a contractor to stab and kill animals in archaic trauma training drills, even though that contractor has blatantly violated federal animal welfare guidelines.
  4. After University of Massachusetts President Marty Meehan reneged on his offer to meet with PETA representatives following our spirited protest at an alumni event, we appealed to the chair of the university’s board of trustees to broker a meeting with Meehan about cruel, invasive menopause experiments on tiny marmoset monkeys.
  5. After discovering a laundry list of serious animal welfare violations at the University of Minnesota and Fort Valley State University in Georgia, PETA is urging these and other schools to prohibit violators from having contact with animals, modernize their science programs, and embrace non-animal test methods like those outlined in our groundbreaking Research Modernization Deal.
