PETA Donor Profile: Diana Artemis Changes Hearts and Minds for Animals

by Jennie E. Taylor

Nearly 30 years ago, Diana Artemis made her first gift to PETA. As a longtime cat guardian even back then, she had a subscription to Cat Fancy magazine. Through that publication, she first learned about PETA’s work for animals—and made a $15 gift to support it.

Little did she suspect then that almost three decades later, she’d still be funding PETA’s work, now with a qualified charitable distribution from her IRA at the President’s Circle level of giving.

Diana’s passion for animals and desire to help them has led her to support a variety of campaigns during her many years with PETA:

  • She funded PETA Science Consortium International e.V.’s development of a lifesaving cancer project that’s accessible online to scientists around the world. It helps them identify when regulations don’t require the use of animals for cancer tests—a change that has the potential to spare more than 6,000 animals every year in the U.S. alone.
  • She has supported the PETA Foundation’s Captive Animal Law Enforcement Department by funding expert site visits to roadside zoos.
  • She has been an inspiration to other PETA members by being the initial funder of the group’s 2023 “Save Our Skins” Matching-Gift Challenge and writing a letter asking others to follow her lead.
  • She has provided funding to PETA’s Global Compassion Fund to help young women in Petra, Jordan, better understand cruel animal practices and compassionate alternatives.
  • She helped create an international animal-free education hub that will teach educators around the globe—including in Africa, Eastern Europe, and South America—about innovative, animal-free teaching methods.

Diana also helps make the world a better place for animals by being the guardian of three beautiful cats—Ganesh, Shiva, and Corianka. She’s an active environmentalist who loves to talk about how our actions affect animals as well as the planet, and a mentor to a young woman who’s now embracing a vegan lifestyle and has become an animal rights activist in her school and community.

Everyone who meets Diana is better off for knowing her. She deserves our thanks for everything she does to help make the world a better place for all.
