Celebrities Take a Starring Role in These Spay/Neuter Ads

Can it be true? Is actor Brian Cox, the utterly terrifying Logan Roy on the hit show Succession, actually a softie? As Cox makes clear in a charming public service announcement (PSA) for PETA, he is indeed a phenomenal actor—because the real man has a heart of gold! He knows that spaying and neutering is the most effective way to end animal homelessness. He drives that point home in an “interview” with a delightful cat named Patches, who was up for adoption at London’s Mayhew animal shelter (and who has since been adopted).

Mickey Rourke, another tough-as-nails actor, also pulls no punches when it comes to speaking up for animals. When the actor got a chance to work with his beloved Chihuahua—queue the music, his name is Jaws—he was immediately on board. In a no-holds-barred ad promoting spaying and neutering, Mickey and Jaws urge people to “[h]ave the cojones to fix your dog. When dogs get knocked up, puppies get put down because there aren’t enough homes for them.”

Comedian Jane Lynch has been making audiences laugh for years, but the award-winning actor knows there’s nothing funny about the companion animal overpopulation crisis. In her PSA for PETA, Lynch calls on everyone to do their part by spaying and neutering—and offers a smidgen of motherly advice as well.

In a saucy PSA that only the late, great Cloris Leachman could pull off, birth control is cast in a whole new light.

What does circumcision have to do with companion animal overpopulation? Tune in to hear comedian Marc Maron’s take on the subject—but brace yourself, he doesn’t hold back.
