5 Ways PETA Is Helping Animals in Laboratories This Week

  1. News that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Department of Justice are investigating Charles River Laboratories—one of the largest importers of monkeys for experiments—has us demanding that authorities force the company to pay for sanctuary homes for any monkeys who are found to have been imported illegally.
  2. After PETA reviewed federal inspection reports and notified law enforcement that dogs at the contract-testing laboratory Blue Ridge Kennel in Alabama were emaciated, not receiving veterinary care, and suffering from neglect and cruelty, the U.S. Department of Agriculture promptly took the rare action of filing a formal complaint against the facility, hopefully a first step toward shutting this hellhole down.
  3. A “crying pig” and other PETA supporters attended a University of Tennessee Board of Trustees meeting to urge the school’s College of Medicine to stop collapsing pigs’ lungs, cutting into their arteries, and breaking their ribs in gruesome training drills.
  4. PETA supporters descended on Columbia Business School in New York, where they confronted a bigwig from Ajinomoto and challenged the Japanese frozen-food giant to stop conducting and funding gruesome, pointless tests on animals that aren’t required by law.
  5. In other actions against cruelty at American universities, PETA has debunked Christine Lattin’s latest “scientific” paper describing the torture of sparrows at Louisiana State University—and exposed possible lies in a recent grant application from infamous marmoset tormentor Agnès Lacreuse, who’s based at the University of Massachusetts–Amherst.
