Help Fellow Primates Through ‘Giving Day for Apes’

Presented by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), “Giving Day for Apes” is a 24-hour online fundraising event—established by the Arcus Foundation in 2014—to raise awareness of and support for qualified sanctuaries and rescue centers that provide great apes and gibbons throughout Africa, Asia, and North America with rehabilitation and long-term care.

The event’s terms ensure that each participating organization meets qualifying criteria for ethical practices—including no commercial trade of animals, no invasive research, and no captive breeding. During the lead-up to the event, GFAS offers webinars and other resources to participants on topics that include storytelling, e-mail campaigns, peer-to-peer fundraising, and matching grants to help support their work for animals.

Although last year’s event was the most successful yet, this year’s “Giving Day” is already shaping up to do just as well or even better. With the largest number of participating sanctuaries and rescue centers (40 total!) and the highest prize package offered to date—worth $65,500 and made possible by the generosity of the Arcus Foundation, the American Anti-Vivisection Society, and the David Bohnett Foundationyou won’t want to miss this!

Fundraising has already begun, and all supporters can tune in on Tuesday, October 12, to make a secure charitable donation through an online giving platform. GFAS will be providing frequent Twitter updates throughout the day, so be sure to follow the group here to learn about upcoming prizes and the prizewinners as well as to watch the leaderboards rise for animals.

This year’s goal is to raise more than $750,000. The funds will directly support the care and rehabilitation of rescued great apes and gibbons. Don’t want to wait until October 12? You don’t have to! Click the button below to support “Giving Day for Apes” right now.
