Furry Closet? Join Anjelica Huston, and Get Out the Scissors

“These coats were given to me decades ago, when I had no idea how animals suffered in the fur trade,” said Oscar winner Anjelica Huston. And today, she donated her furs to save other animals. She brought the coats to PETA’s Los Angeles office and cut some into pieces that will be used by Minnesota’s Cuddle Coats as bedding to comfort orphaned animals as they receive treatment from wildlife rehabilitators.

Other coats will be sent from Beverly Hills to the hills of West Virginia, where the Scott Place Shelter will use them to keep the homeless warm during this bitterly cold winter.

“They’ve been sitting in storage for over 20 years,” said Huston, PETA’s 2012 Person of the Year. “By donating them to PETA, I’ll be giving them a new purpose by providing orphaned wildlife with bedding and helping the homeless keep warm.”

The donated items include a lynx-fur jacket, a coat trimmed with muskrat fur, and a black rabbit-fur hat.

Huston is in great company. Mariah CareyKim CattrallMary Tyler Moore, and Sharon Osbourne have all donated their furs to PETA, and numerous top designers and retailers have gone fur-free, including BCBG Max AzriaCalvin KleinGiorgio ArmaniGucciJimmy Choo, and Michael Kors.
