10 Easy Things You Can Do to Help Animals!
1. A new PETA exposé of a Patagonia-approved wool producer shows, yet again, that sheep suffer in the wool industry, despite the company’s claims of “rigorous” standards. Join PETA in urging Patagonia to drop all wool in favor of animal-friendly materials.
2. Carson & Barnes Circus canceled its summer tour, and if the way that Cole Bros. Circus shut down last year is any indication, the news could be the first sign that the circus is finished. Tell Carson & Barnes to save itself by using only willing human performers and retiring the animals it uses to accredited sanctuaries.
3. Photographs and video footage obtained by PETA reveal multiple animal-welfare violations at Virginia’s notorious Natural Bridge Zoo. Asha, the only elephant at the roadside zoo, was forced to give rides despite having painful cracked and overgrown toenails. Urge the zoo’s proprietors to put her well-being first by retiring her to an accredited sanctuary.
4. Each October, during the infamous “Turkey Trot” festival in Yellville, Arkansas, captive wild turkeys—who naturally fly only short distances and never higher than 100 feet—are hurled from a private plane high above the festivities. Please politely urge Turkey Trot festival sponsors to pull their support from the event until the sadistic “turkey drop” is ended.
5. Live turtles, frogs, fish, crabs, and other animals sold for human consumption by Jusgo Supermarket locations in Texas are allegedly being kept in severely crowded conditions that leave them in danger of injury and suffocation. Contact the company and urge it to consider a ban on the sale of live animals altogether.
6. Read and share PETA’s tips for keeping dogs happy and safe on summer vacations.
7. Every day, more companies are answering consumer demands for vegan food with exciting new options, but Applebee’s hasn’t caught on yet. Sign this petition asking the restaurant to get with the times and introduce vegan options.
8. Celebrate National Caviar Day on July 18 with Cavi-art, a sustainable, vegan alternative to fish eggs that doesn’t harm animals and is packed with the briny taste that enthusiasts expect.
9. Planning a trip to Asia? Discover nine powerful reasons that tourists should never ride elephants, and avoid so-called “sanctuaries” for them.
10. Help an “outdoor dog” survive the heat this summer by sponsoring a doghouse through PETA’s “Angels for Animals” program.
