The PETA-supported organization Animal Rahat has been saving the lives of countless animals since August 2003.
Rahat means “relief” in Hindi, and that’s exactly what Animal Rahat gives to working bullocks, donkeys, ponies, horses, and other animals in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Veterinary teams at four regional offices help animals in often-desperate need, while the group’s two sanctuaries provide rescued and retired animals with a lifetime of care. Last year alone, Animal Rahat rescued more than 328 animals who were found in extremely perilous predicaments and treated more than 21,200 animals for a variety of ailments, including skin infections, lameness, and life-threatening injuries.
To celebrate this wonderful group’s 18th anniversary, let PETA President Ingrid Newkirk tell you a bit about Animal Rahat’s work to rescue, care for, and retire thousands of animals each year.
