You may recall that back in June, the brave rescuers from Ukraine’s Animal Rescue Kharkiv (ARK) were announced as the winners of this year’s Gregory J. Reiter Animal Rescue Award. The group garnered support from around the globe for its inspiring work on the front lines of Ukraine during the war, helping the country’s most vulnerable beings. ARK has been rescuing animals from destroyed buildings and saving dogs and cats who were abandoned when their owners fled the violence. The group has also been working to reunite lost animals with their families. Even after parts of its clinic were destroyed by Russian missiles, it never stopped helping animals.
To honor the group, PETA Germany presented the award to the dedicated crew at ARK, and we have photos and videos to share from this special moment! Helen, a member of ARK, can be seen here with Harald Ullmann, senior vice president of PETA Germany. We applaud and support the work of ARK, which is making a tremendous difference in the lives of animals affected by the war in Ukraine.
How You Can Help Animals in Ukraine
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, PETA Germany and its partners have been building a robust network of teams that have rescued more than 11,000 animals and counting! And with the breakdown of food-supply chains, help from PETA’s Global Compassion Fund has supplied more than 3 million pounds of food and provisions (and counting) for dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, and others. Please, help these animals and others by donating to the Global Compassion Fund today.
