PETA’s 45th Celebration in Miami Sizzles With Compassion

PETA senior staff and compassionate supporters flocked to Miami for a sun-soaked celebration marking 45 years of groundbreaking victories for animals!

The romantic charm of The Cocoplum–a gorgeous historic landmark in the heart of Coral Gables–provided the perfect backdrop for browsing the latest items from the PETA Shop and bidding in our exclusive silent auction. Many guests were delighted to meet Charli XC Cow our AI-powered robot calf who burst into a celebratory dance whenever attendees proudly showed off their vegan fashion choices.

Inside, a feast for the senses awaited with the delicious vegan menu prepared by Bill Hansen Catering. Guests dazzled their palates with creations including a spinach salad with vegan mozzarella and aged sherry vinaigrette topped with an Oshi plant-based salmon filet and sprinkled with Cavi-Art, roasted blue oyster mushrooms and marinated watermelon radish slices, a Just Egg frittata laden with baby vegetables and vegan parmesan, and an artisinal spread of vegan cheese delicacies from Bandit Cheese.

After a scrumptious high tea, it was time for a special 45th anniversary presentation by PETA President Ingrid Newkirk, PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman, and other senior PETA leaders. Together, they took attendees behind the scenes of gripping rescues from across the world and our latest triumphs for animals

A highlight of our gathering was the presentation of the Nanci Alexander Activist Award. The award’s namesake herself—honorary PETA director and embodiment of determined animal activism—bestowed this year’s award upon Jeremy Schmidt, who put his career at risk to expose the plight of thousands of suffering chickens left on trucks for as long as five days with no food or water outside a now-shuttered Iowa slaughterhouse.

The celebration concluded with a variety of delectable treats, including a vegan trifle, passion fruit vegan panna cotta, and pumpkin cider donuts, as well as tempting signature cocktails like a vegan espresso martini featuring Bailey’s new non-dairy liquor in ‘Coffee Toffee’ and ‘Cookies & Creamy’ flavors.

As the afternoon waned, guests left The Cocoplum with cruelty-free goodie boxes and renewed dedication to animal liberation.
