PETA Prime polled PETA staffers to find out their favorite cruelty-free beauty creams and settled on six top picks. Many of the women we talked to credited sunscreen for fending off the effects of aging, so we’ve included a short list of the most popular cruelty-free sunscreens as well.

We also discovered another secret that doesn’t come in a jar: Most of the women we polled said that their skin improved dramatically when they adopted a healthier lifestyle, which included eating a healthy vegan diet comprised mainly of whole foods (vegetables, fruit, nuts, and grains), avoiding processed foods as much as possible, and following a daily exercise routine (even just 15 minutes a day).

All the creams below are vegan (they contain no animal ingredients) and are made by companies that do not test on animals-and parent companies don’t test on animals either. The products are listed by price, from the least to the most expensive (although even the priciest pick won’t break the bank).
