Change a Chained Dog’s World—With Your Spare Change

Nothing compares to being outside on a snowy winter day—unless you’re stuck out there with no way to stay warm.

Winter isn’t bracing then—it’s demoralizing. The wind and cold cut through you, and the nights are dark and long. There’s no end to the bone-chilling misery.

Dogs should always live indoors as beloved family members, but many are trying right now to survive another bleak winter. Some might have a drafty crate for “shelter” or maybe a cardboard box, a metal drum, or a few scraps of plywood leaning against a chain-link fence. Others don’t have anything.

You can help change that.

PETA builds and delivers sturdy doghouses designed to protect these neglected dogs. The slanted roof has an overhang to deflect snow and ice, the door is covered with a durable flap to block the wind, and the platform keeps the floor dry. They’re also filled with straw for extra insulation. We’ve delivered more than 300 so far this year.

This is where you come in.

We’ve designed a nifty doghouse coin box that you can order here. Just like our doghouse-delivery teams, they’re ready to go anywhere: the office, holiday parties, church or synagogue, or just around the house. Check under the sofa cushions. That loose change adds up fast.

Get cash for your coins through machines such as Coinstar Exchange kiosks or at your bank, and then make a gift online or send a check made out to “PETA” with a note that this is “Spare Change for Dogs.” We’ll put it to use immediately to provide a neglected “backyard dog” with some warmth and comfort.

There’s one more way that you can help build doghouses: Become one of PETA’s “Angels for Animals” with a donation here.
