Victory! Angel’s Gate Founder Charged

Posted by at 5:25 AM | Permalink | Comments (8)

The Delaware County, New York, District Attorney’s Office has filed charges of cruelty to animals as well as a drug-related charge against Susan Marino, the woman responsible for the horrific suffering of hundreds of animals at Angel’s Gate, Inc., which she founded, operates, and dares to call “a hospice and rehabilitation center.”

PETA’s investigation of this hellhole exposed the daily neglect and terrible suffering of disabled, elderly, and ailing animals, many of whom had been shipped to Marino by well-meaning but severely uninformed individuals and agencies, including the New York Center for Animal Care and Control (NYCACC), which doomed Malcolm the Chihuahua and hundreds of other animals to die slowly at Angel’s Gate through its “New Hope” program.

PETA had provided the District Attorney with the evidence that our investigator gathered while volunteering at Angel’s Gate. Our investigator saw Marino allow animals to suffer, sometimes for weeks, from treatable conditions as well as terminal illnesses without providing veterinary care, medication, or pain relief. Paralyzed animals dragged themselves until they developed bloody ulcers. Animals developed urine scald after being left in soaked diapers for up to two days. Dehydrated animals were denied water, and others were forced to stay outside in freezing temperatures. The bodies of dead animals were left among those of the living for days.

While Marino has been charged, the nightmare is not over for the animals at Angel’s Gate, as they have not yet been seized. Please help us ensure their welfare and the safety of future victims by joining us in urging the New York State Attorney General to revoke Angel’s Gate’s nonprofit status and ensure that the animals are removed from Marino’s custody. Please click here to send a letter to the Attorney General, and please, when your animal companions become elderly or ill, let them live out their final days with dignity in the comfort of their own homes, surrounded by their families, not at the mercy of a conniving stranger.

I couldn’t watch the whole video. I cry just thinking of what those animals have been putting up with. How can I find out if any of those poor abused souls need a foster home?

I just sent the following email to the Honorable Eric T. Schneiderman. Please click on the link to do the same. These poor animals need to be removed from this woman’s care!!!

I just read about the deplorable conditions in which so many helpless animals were kept at Angel’s Gate. I beg of you to get people to remove those animals that are still left in that nightmarish environment. After reading about it, I feel sick and have not been able to stop crying, for I am a dog owner, and can’t imagine anyone doing this to any living creature. If it’s a matter of money, I’m SURE you can find volunteers who would be more than happy to remove them and give them the care or euthanasia they deserve. Animals are so helpless, and rely upon us to help them. This person needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law in order to deter others who think they might get away with such atrocities.

Please, do the right thing. You will be a hero in so many ways.

    Sincerely,

    Mitzi M. Spallas,
    Los Angeles, CA

I sent my letter via email to the attorney general. I hope that these poor creatures get the justice and help they deserve right away. It’s been too long already for them.

I watched the segment on Angels Gate on Oprah several years ago. I adopted a paralyzed dog and emailed Mrs. Marino questioning the fact that her paralyed dogs were dragging on concrete. She assured me that they had developed calluses and were fine (I think she said she had nursing training) I also told her that there were other people who would adopt paralyzed dogs and she should offer some for adoption. She also assured me that they were very well taken care of at her facility. I beleived her and sent a donation. Hey she was on Oprah afterall..I should have gone with my first instincts. Wow just too sad…Someone should inform Oprah..and that girl Jill who is on the Today show..

I think this is one of the most despicable cases I have heard of. The poor animals suffering abuse and neglect after their guardians were promised good care for them.

What is so infuriating is that so many of the guilty people only get the proverbial slap on the wrist–no big fine, no well-deserved lengthy jail time. I sent e-mail to the attorney general and I hope many other people did also. Prosecutors and judges need to realize animal abuse should be treated as the serious crime it is.

Really, I think that rather than wait for red-tape beaurocracy to fix it – someday, a seizure should be organized by animal lovers – whoever can get over there – and the crowd should take wire and bolt cutters along with vehicles to transport animals. And, once you’ve saved as many from this ‘Angel’s Gate’ as you can – put the witch in one of the filthiest cages and lock it up. You could call someone later and let them know where she is so she doesn’t have to suffer.

After all, what has a right-minded group have to lose – you will be heroes! – and the animals will be eternally grateful for your actions.

    Just a thought …

WHY would anyone send their companion animal away to ANYONE to live out their final days surrounded by strangers??? This will not end until people get their heads out of the clouds & face their own & their pets’ mortality. It “ain’t pretty” to watch, but it’s part of life and we all need to be adult enough to be responsible to the end.
