The EU Takes a Stand for Seals

Seals around the world are throwing up their flippers in celebration—the European Parliament voted today to end the sale of seal products across the European Union (EU)!
This vote adds to the pressure on Canada to end the seal slaughter. It shows that the EU Parliament recognizes the inhumanity of the annual massacre. The ban will undoubtedly deal a strong blow to sealers' profits—and that, in turn, will result in less blood on the ice.
The EU's decision is in line with the wishes of the majority of European citizens and all good people across the globe, including, of course, all Canadian citizens who are ashamed that their country is party to the bloody seal slaughter. Eyes now turn to the Canadian government: It has threatened to challenge the EU ban on trade in seal products at the World Trade Organization. Instead, it should be using its own laws to ban the seal slaughter.

This is great 100 points for the baby seals and 0 points for Canada. I'm so happy that I could take part in this event. And I hope and Pray that all God's creature has a right to live.

I don't understand how anyone thinks that pelts skinned from an animal are attractive. There are more important matters for the WTO to concentrate on than supporting the disgusting use of dead animal pelts.

I don't think Canada sees this as murder. Plus these seals are living their lives, born free. Who is Canada to say that free seals are for slaughter for profit. I don't wear any animals on me. Read labels. China and Korea also have a great thing going too, dogs and cats. apparently once the dog gets to be a year old its ready to celebrate the killing, murder them. they think its potent meat at that point. What the hell are they ingesting to make them dissolutioned. I would really like to know and now they have turned to rabbits so hasnt brazil. whats with the mindset with these countries anyway.

I was appalled when I read in the newspaper that some of our politicians had proposed that our athletes wear seal fur as the uniform for the 2010 Olympics, what is wrong with these people??? There is so much misinformation about the seal hunt – depletion of cod, the sealers making a living – it is absolutley disgusting that this is still allowed to happen and hopefully now the EU has taken this stand then maybe the hunt will be stopped for good.

I just hope Canadians will finally be ashamed of how cruelly they kill these poor animals for profit. Shame on them, truly. I just hope they will stop killing these innocent poor baby seals.

So Happy……….. Still a long way to go, but a major victory nevertheless and hopefully the beginning of the end to the barbaric practices of the fur industry.
