Member Spotlight: Dale Hecht and the PETA Pack

Posted by Karen Taggart at 5:37 AM | Permalink | Comments (3)

peta_pack_logoI am continually amazed by the dedication and generosity of PETA members–including Dale Hecht, a member who has taken her commitment to the next level. Hecht just joined the PETA Pack–a team of runners that will be participating in the San Francisco Half Marathon & 5K Fun Run on February 1, 2009.

As a beginner runner and a new member of the PETA Pack myself, I wanted to talk with Hecht to learn more about the run and her inspiration for taking on such a challenge.

What made you decide to become a part of the PETA Pack?

I love animals, and I love to run, so combining the two is absolute perfection.

What aspect of being part of the team are you most looking forward to?

Being part of a team is the biggest motivator for reaching one’s goals, and I truly enjoy the camaraderie and encouragement among each individual. Plus, we all have one major thing in common: a HUGE passion for animals and doing whatever it takes to protect their rights.

What do you think the biggest challenges are going to be?

It will be challenging sticking to a strict day-to-day training schedule and encouraging myself to train when the weather is bad.

How can the PETA Pack help stop cruelty to animals?

When my friends and family come to my Web page to donate money, they are exposed to PETA links. Since most of them might not perform a Web search on animal rights, having these links at their fingertips will hopefully encourage them to click on a link and become more educated about the many forms of cruelty to animals and abuse going on right now around the world.

The Pack started training on November 8 with a professional fitness coach, who is providing the necessary training and inspiration to help us meet our own personal goals and raise needed funds for PETA. It’s not too late to join the PETA Pack and kick start a healthy holiday routine.

You can team-train in person with us in San Francisco every Saturday, or you can train with friends remotely and join us for the actual race in February. If you are interested in joining the Pack, we would love to have you on our team! E-mail Alex Bury at AlexB@petaf.org.

What a super idea! Run for the animals, make money for the animals, and get exposure for PETA and their website. Good luck to all the runners!

    Hi Karen,

Great blog. It has inspired me to support the PETA Pack!! Hope it inspires others as well. I can’t think of any better cause to support than the fight against animal cruelty. Go Runners!!
